Brighton Marathon Weekend
Cardiff athlete Charlotte Arter (Chris Jones) produced another excellent performance at the Brighton Marathon 10k which formed part of the Brighton Marathon weekend races. Arter stormed to victory in a time of 32:17, winning by a margin of over 50 seconds from second placed Phoebe Law. In the Brighton Marathon, Cardiff athlete Dan Nash finished second in the men’s race with a time of 2:22:55.
Great Welsh Marathon and Half Marathon – Llanelli
The Great Welsh Marathon and Half Marathon took place in difficult conditions on the South-West coast of Wales on Sunday morning. The men’s marathon was won by Matthew King in 2:43:52, with Neil Jones (Pontyclun) second in 2:45:25 and Peter Bryant third in 2:47:13. The women’s race was won by Catherine Barker (Penarth & Dinas) in a time of 3:33:31, with Karen Connell (OS Runners) second in 3:34:38 and Christine Haigh third in 3:34:46.
The women’s half marathon was won by Catherine Rennie (Swansea Harriers) in 1:30:08, with Liz Robbins (Llanelli) second in 1:36:56 and Llinos Jones (Swansea Harriers) third in 1:39:02. In the men’s half marathon event it was Llanelli’s Nicholas Sheehan who was victorious in 1:17:38 ahead of Craig Jones (Swansea Harriers – 1:22:25) and Dai Morgan (1:24:43).
ERRA National Road Relays – Sutton Park, Birmingham
Swansea Harriers were the top welsh team in both the Women’s 6 Stage and Men’s 12 Stage National Road Relays at Sutton Park on Saturday afternoon. Swansea’s women finished 13th in the 6 Stage event whilst Parc Brynbach finished 31st. In the men’s 12 Stage race, Swansea’s men finished in 3rd place with another fine performance, whilst Les Croupiers finished in 39th.
Boston Marathon - Boston, UK
Aberystwyth athlete Rob Johnson finished 2nd at the Boston Marathon in a time of 2:38:19 - the result ranks him 5th in the current Men's V40 UK Marathon rankings.
APSU Invitational – Tennessee, USA
Cardiff’s Matthew Edwards ran a season’s best of 3:54 to finish second in the men’s 1,500m at the APSU Invitational in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Tiger Track Classic – Alabama, USA.
Bethan Evans (Cardiff AAC) ran a season’s best time of 2:21 to win the women’s 800m whilst Rebecca Evans (Cardiff AAC) ran 4:41 to finish 14th in the women’s 1,500m at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama.
