Welsh Javelin star lights Olympic Cauldron

Wales's involvement in the London 2012 Olympic Games will not be limited to the five athletes who will compete for Team GB in the athletics, for the Principality already secured a little bit of history during the Opening Ceremony last night.

Young Welsh javelin star Aidan Reynolds, who as an under 20 already ranks as the second best Welsh athlete in the discipline behind Lee Doran, was one of the seven future Olympic hopes called to light the Olympic Cauldron at the end of Danny Boyle's emotional show at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

Reynolds, whose personal best is 68.30m and who was a silver medallist in the English Schools Championships, received the sacred flame from legend Steve Redgrave before running a lap of the track and lighting up the petals of the cauldron, each petal representing one of the participating countries.

The choice of seven young athletes, all nominated by previous stars like Kelly Holmes and Daley Thompson, was meant to highlight the importance of these Games in inspiring a generation and providing a legacy for London and Britain.
