Welsh Olympian Gareth Warburton, who will be competing in the London Games in the 800m, is likely to be the next big star to sign up to the Welsh Athletics International, that will take place on July 18th.
The North Walian, who was the final addition to Team GB, bringing the count of Welshmen in the athletics team to five, is looking a strong prospect for the 4x400m relay team that will take on some impressive opposition, and would make the Welsh team an even more solid contender in the blue riband event.
Talking about Gareth´s involvement in the Welsh Athletics International, which will be held at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium, his coach Darrell Maynard said: "This event would fit nicely in the run-up to the Olympic Games. It would be valuable speed training when looking at Gareth´s event, the 800m."
Warburton would join an all-star cast including Olympians like Brett Morse (Great Britain), Kerron Clement (USA), Mervyn Luckwell (Great Britain) and Nijel Amos (Botswana), in addition to Welsh Commonwealth stars Carys Parry, Lee Doran and Ryan Spencer-Jones.
More than 20 nations have already committed members of their Olympic teams, including Trinidad & Tobago, Brazil, Italy, Sweden and most recently the Netherlands.
