Discus thrower Brett Morse (coach: Veistenn Hafsteinsson) will be given a wonderful send-off before the Olympic Games as he lines up to compete at the Welsh Athletics International on July 18th.
Morse, who is one of the "Fab Four" Welsh athletes selected for the London 2012 Olympic Games, will be looking for a strong performance to set him on the right path towards the biggest competition of his career to date.
"It's a dream come true and a huge relief" said Brett about his Olympic selection, "I can now focus and get prepared and hopefully do great things at the Games."
The young thrower is confident of a good showing in Cardiff - a stadium where his career began and boomed.
"I would like to continue my good form of late in front of my home crowd and family. It will be a great competition and am very much looking forward to it.
"It's fitting for me to do my last competition before the Olympics at the place where I picked up my first discus and entered my first circle - I hope the home crowd will get behind me for each throw and maybe we can see something special!"
Morse is the latest of a string of big names who already confirmed participation at the Welsh Athletics International. Yesterday, Welsh Athletics announced the presence of Olympic medallist and indoor World Record holder Kerron Clement (400mH, USA), adding up to the World's number two in the 800m, Nijel Amos of Botswana, for what promises to be a great night of athletics in Cardiff.
The Welsh Athletics International is a unique chance for Wales to showcase the best of Olympic and Welsh athletics talent just days before the start of the 2012 Games. Many Nations, including USA, Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Botswana, South Africa, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Chile, Haiti, British Virgin Islands and Costa Rica have already confirmed their participation.
The event is planned to capture the Olympic fever that will be building in the anticipation of the start of the Games, and is well placed in the athletics calendar - just days after the London GP. This meeting also includes an under 20 International pre-meeting, featuring the best of up and coming talent, and giving them vital experience and a chance to be part of a fantastic evening.
