Warburton smashes Welsh Record & Olympic A Standard

800m runner Gareth Warburton (coach: Darrell Maynard) set a new Welsh Record over the two laps tonight.

Gareth won the 800m race at the Oslo Diamond League in a time of 1.44.98. This time was a National record by nearly half a second, breaking the previous record set by Neil Horsfield in 1990.

More importantly, this is an Olympic “A” standard performance (standard – 1.45.60).

Gareth ran the whole race from the front, beat his nearest rival by over 2 seconds and looked strong in the closing stages. There is certainly more to come from the man who has now truly broken through onto the World scene.

Many congratulations to both Gareth and his coach – Darrell.
