Welsh Athletics Academy supported athlete Ben Gregory (Emily Parker) set a superb personal best of 7554 points this weekend in winning the Southern Countes Decathlon at Abingdon.

Not only did Ben add an excellent 171 points to his prevous best of 7383 points in less than perfect conditions, but he also set a new Championship Best Performance for the event.

With the Commonwealth Games just over two years away, the potential for Welsh Decathletes to be strong contenders for medals is an exciting prospect.

Welsh record holder David Guest (Mike Guest) with a best of 7727 points is now healthy again after more than a year of frustration with injury, while the UK's number two junior in 2011, Curtis Matthews (Mike Guest) is showing the promise to fill the third Welsh slot in this event at Glasgow.
