The Celtic Games: information for athletes, coaches and parents.
Aberdeen, Saturday 11th August 2012. (The last Saturday of the Olympic Games)
The Celtics Games is an annual international match for Wales, Ireland and Scotland., each country hosting in rota. This year Scotland are hosts and the venue is Aberdeen. The Celtic Games is for one athlete per event and the age groups are a little different from our usual leagues and championships, following the international youth age groups. These are:- Under 16, for those born between 1st January 1997 and 31st December 1998; Under 18 for those born between 1st January 1995 and 31st December 1996.
The older (U18) age group have a full programme of events.
U18 Women; 100m; 200m; 400m;; 800m; 1500m; 3000m; 100m Hurdles; 400m Hurdles; 4 x 100m relay; 4 x 400m relay; High Jump; Pole Vault; Long Jump; Triple Jump; Shot Putt [4kg]; Discus [1 kg]; Hammer [4kg]; Javelin [600g];
U18 Men; 100m; 200m; 400m; 800m; 1500m; 2000m s/chase; 110m Hurdles; 400m Hurdles; 4 x 100m relay; 4 x 400m relay; High Jump; Pole Vault; Long Jump; Triple Jump; Shot Putt [5kg]; Discus [1.5 kg]; Hammer [5kg]; Javelin [700g].
The younger (U16) age group has a limited programme, alternating each year, this year the programme for Under 16s is:-
U16 girls: 100m; 800m; 80m hurdles; 2 members of a mixed 4 x 100m relay; long jump; shot putt; javelin.
U16 boys: 200m; 1500m; 100m hurdles; 2 members of a mixed 4 x 100m relay; high jump; discus.
Selection is based on the ‘Power of Ten’ rankings with strong consideration of current form at the time of selection, which is usually quite early, as team arrangements particularly travel (flights) have to be completed in good time.
