Houston lights up Anglo Celtic Plate and 100km Champs

Scotland’s Ross Houston delivered a stunning performance as Welsh Athletics hosted the 2015 UK 100km Championships and Anglo Celtic Plate.

Held at Redwick, Newport on Saturday, the event saw favourable conditions for ultra-distance running with cool temperatures and light rain.

The performance of the day undoubtedly came from Houston, who clocked an incredible 6:43:35 to take the win.

Phil Anthony had led from Houston by around three minutes at the halfway mark but by 70km he was overtaken and eventually had to withdraw.

Craig Holgate maintained his incredibly consistent form with his third consecutive runner-up spot.

The ladies race was more predictable with Katie Samuelson (5th last year) looking very composed throughout and finished with a 10 minute margin (8:38:11) from Rosie Bell (8:58:38) with Wales's Natasha Farid-Doyle in third (9:10:38).

The individual positions barely changed throughout. Although numbers were small, performances were of a very high standard, with the first five men and first three ladies all running new personal bests.

In the team competitions, England retained the men's plate from Scotland and Wales, the same as 2014, whilst Scotland took the ladies’ plate.
