Trail Marathon Wales


The innaugural Trail Marathon Wales takes place this Saturday 23rd of June at the Coed Y Brenin Forest in the Snowdonia National Park. The event will form the second fixture in the 2012 Welsh Trail Running Championships.

Coed Y Brenin has made it's name as one of the world's top destinations for Mountain Bikers and Saturdays event will allow runners to enjoy the same area that is well known amongst cyclists. There is a choice of full or half marathons with both events using the stunning trails of the world renowned forestry centre.

Andrew Davies (Maldwyn Harriers) won silver at the Commonwealth Ultra-Distance Trail Running Championships in September and is among the top entries for this weekends event. Andrew's brother Tim is a three time winner of the Snowdon International Race and finished fifth at the World Mountain Running Trophy in 2003 and is expected to run. Brothers Felipe and Andres Jones (Aberystwyth AC) and Matthew Roberts (Eryri Harriers) are also amongst the top entries for the Men's Marathon.

Katie Beecher (Les Croupiers) is expected to race the full marathon distance here a week after representing Wales at the Karrimor Great Trail Race in Keswick. Kelly Morgan was the silver medalist at the Welsh Marathon Championships in London and along with Tammy Lewis Jones (Eryri Harriers) should feature amongst the leaders in the ladies category.
