The second edition of the Beast of Bryn (Bwystfil Y Bryn) Trail Races took place on Saturday despite fierce weather conditions.
The event gained it's popularity with local runners due top it's scenic and challenging route which travels across the mountains of Margam and along the famous Mountain Bike trails of Afan Argoed Country Park.

(The route passed the Cwenderi Reservoir pictured above)
Gareth Ayres (Port Talbot) took advantage of a local knowledge of the area to win the 15 mile race by a margin of five minutes. Matthew Reynolds (unattached) and Andrew Wright (Port Talbot) took the second and third spots respectively.
The ladies champion Tammy Lewis Jones (Eryri) had slighly further to travel, making the trip from North Wales count by taking her title ahead of Sandra Pinkham (Port Talbot) and Meinir Jones (unattached) who finished in that order.
The 6.8 mile race was similarily won by a local man, this time it was Dean Johnston (Neath Harriers) who claimed a victory amongst the poor weather conditions. Sharon Leech (Carmarthen) was the short course ladies champion.
The Beast of Bryn was generously sponsored by Tata Steel with all the profits going to charity. Cystic Fibrosis Trust were the main one to benefit.
