In excess of thirty athletes along with eight coaches attended the latest Sth/East endurance day in Newport on May 6th.
The day commenced with a comprehensive warm up routine led by former GB 800m athlete Joe Thomas.
The athletes then split into various groups for track sessions of either 800, 1500 or 3000m based. The sessions went very well, both athletes and coaches alike were very positive with the outcome.
Post lunch there was a hurdle drill session followed by a stability and functional control component both of which were primarily led by support coach Owen Haswell.
Following a warm down the athletes watched a video of Joe winning an international 800m race in 2012, this was followed with an insight into what training Joe had been implementing over the years to enable him to become a world class athlete.
Head of endurance Chris Jones gave a talk on the way forward for young athletes which was very informative and well received by everyone.
There was a question and answer with Joe to finish and there were certainly lots of questions asked.
