The Senior Home International was held at Sedbergh, Cumbria on Sunday 18th June in blistering hot and sunny conditions, while a few athletes were held up on their way to the event by a traffic jam on the M6 in which Richard Roberts should be commended, being a trained paramedic for stopping to treat the casualties until they were taken to Hospital, Richard still managed to get to the event venue in time, just!
Despite delaying the start of the two races, Annabelle McQueen (Eryri) still missed the start of the Junior Women/Men’s race but was allowed to run in the Senior Women/Men’s race, completing a lap of the 6.3km/433m up and down course while the senior’s completed two laps 12.6km/866m, Annabelle’s time would have placed her 4th in the junior women’s race.
The first Welsh finisher in the Senior race was Rob Samuel (Eryri) in 9th place followed by 14th Richard Phillips (Serpentine), 19th Richard Roberts (Eryri), 6th Female Natasha Cockram (Micky Morris Racing Team), 14th Andrea Rowlands (Eryri), 18th Katie Beecher (les Croupiers) & 21st Sian Williams (Hebog) Both male and female Welsh teams won Team Bronze. The senior race was won by England’s Chris Smith with England’s Katie Walshaw taking the women’s title.
The event also incorporated the GB World Mountain Running Championship Trials and with Heidi Davies (Brecon) already pre-selected, Annabelle McQueen faces an anxious wait to see if she has also been selected for the GB Junior Women’s team alongside Heidi.
