Last weekend saw the first Welsh Athletics Sight Loss and Guide Running Workshop delivered in Pontypool, Torfaen.
The workshop, which has been developed in conjunction with British Blind Sport, provides runners, leaders, coaches and volunteers with information and experience in guide running for people with a visual impairment. The workshop covered a number of areas including types of visual impairment (VI), behaviour and terminology and how to make running sessions VI friendly.
The workshop was a ‘sell out’ with 20 attendees from across clubs in south and east Wales, with positive feedback from all participants.
Chris Moss Development Manager added;
'We delivered this workshop in partnership with Disability Sport Wales and Torfaen Sports Development and I’d like to thank both organisations for their continued support. There is a high level of demand and interest within clubs and the running community for these workshops, which was evident when we advertised the workshop before Christmas where within 4 days we’d reached capacity. Last weekend it was great to see such a positive response and with so many clubs in attendance at workshops such as this it allows clubs to offer more comprehensive and more inclusive opportunities’.
