Weekend round up 13.02.2017

British Indoor Championships – Sheffield

Sally Peake (Scott Simpson) picked up yet another medal in the women’s Pole Vault, jumping 4.16m for a silver medal. Adelle Nicoll (Adrian Palmer) returned from injury to pick up a bronze in the women’s Shot Put, her throw of 15.93m was also an indoor PB. Alex Coomber (Arwyn Davies) had a breakthrough weekend, using front running tactic to win his heat on Saturday, the same tactics nearly led to a first British medal, but he was just overtaken in the last 100m to finish an agonising 4th, albeit in a new PB of 1.50.03.

Ieuan Thomas (James Thie) continued his run of good form with a first ever sub 8 clocking in the 3000m, his time of 7.59.32 for 5th in a high quality race. Ellie Kirk (Steve Vernon) has had a great indoor season so far, but she could only manage 4th in a quality women’s 3000m with a time of 9.17.80.

It proved a frustrating weekend for many Welsh athletes in Sheffield. Heather Lewis (Martin Bell) was well clear and on British Record pace in the 3000m walk when she was disqualified for lifting with just over 200m to go, while another medal cert David Omoregie (Benke Blomkvist) was also disqualified for a false start.

Fastrack Invite, New York

Elliot Slade stormed to a new PB over the mile distance, clocking a time of 4.06.56 for the victory. Jac Hopkins (Kevin Tobin) made a welcome return to competition with 10th place finish in the invitational 3000m, clocking a new PB with a  time of 8.17.88.

Iowa State Classic, Iowa

Michael Ward (Paul Darney) just missed out on an overall pb, with a 8.06.15 clocking on his way to a 2nd place finish.
