Competitive Fields For The Nos Galan Road Races


Kristian Jones (Swansea Harriers) will defend his title at the Nos Galan Road Races in Mountain Ash on New Years Eve.

The Swansea Harrier will hope to repeat his 2016 victory over Ieuan Thomas (Cardiff AAC), at the event which was founded by the late Bernard Baldwin in 1958.

Thomas has since made his Great Briatain & Northern Ireland Team debut at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London but Jones remains the faster on road form, with a best of 14.03 and holds the course record in Mountain Ash with a time of 14.11.

Mike Ward (Cardiff AAC) was the runner-up in 2014 & 2015 and has a 5,000m best of 13.54 set at the Stanford International in California.

Matt Clowes (Cardiff AAC) has a great record on the road which includes a previous sub 14 minute clocking and wins at the Cheshire and Wilmslow 10k's in 2017.

Steve Mitchell (Bristol & West AC), and Cardiff AAC trio James Hunt, Carwyn Jones and Dan Nash will also be likely to feature.

Young Swansea Harriers Jack Gooch and Christian Lovatt are also likely to be in the mix as are Cardiff's James Vincent and IPC star, Steohen Morris (Cardiff AAC).

The ladies race could also be wide open and features the 2014 winner and 2015 runner-up, Alaw Beynon-Thomas (Swansea Harriers).

Clara Evans (Cardiff AAC) will be hard to beat if her form is good and is the fastest on the roads with a best of 16.47. 

Sian Edwards (Swansea Harriers), Natasha Cockram (MMRT) and Carys Hughes (Cardiff AAC) are all competitove racers who will be looking to get on to the podium.

Children's races start at 17.15 with the elite race taking place at 19.00.
