The World University Athletics Games will be underway today in Chinese Tapei with two Welsh Athletes representing a 20 strong Great Britain team.
Jennifer Nesbitt (David Walker) will be in action today (22nd) at 12:45pm (UK time) in the final of the Women’s 10,000m. The Worcester AC runner who is currently based at Bath University has had a solid summer season after finishing 6th over 10,000m at the European under 23 Championships in Poland. She also has a personal best of 32:59 so will certainly be one to watch out for.
Melissa Courtney (Rob Denmark) will be competing in the first rounds of the Women’s 1500m on Saturday (26th) at 3:40am (UK time) with high hopes on progressing to the final. The Shaftesbury Barnet runner has been in good form this year after winning the BUCS 1500m title in Bedford which confirmed her place on the team for the upcoming Championships. She also set a new personal best of 4:05.82 at the London Anniversary Games in July which puts her in contention to make the final.
Both Athletes already have Commonwealth Qualification standards from there impressive seasons but this competition will provide them with an opportunity of racing at a world class level.
