With the world gaze fixed on the World Championships, it is fitting that someone who is crucial to the success of the event is named as Sport Wales’ hero of the Month.
Dave Jessett is a person who will very familiar to both the British & Welsh Athletics Scene. The Swansea based Official has played an active role in athletics for more than fifty years and is currently at the London World Championships in his role as Competition Director. Dave has been involved in athletics from the grassroots level up to World Standard competition and is one of the most dedicated & hardworking people in our sport. Mr Jessett’s devotion has not gone unnoticed as Sport Wales recently announced him as their ‘#YouSportLegend’ for the month of August.
This is a huge achievement and is thoroughly deserved after how much commitment Dave has put in over the years. Welsh Athletics has this to add: ‘Dave is one of the UK’s top officials, and it is testament to his dedication as a volunteer that he will officiate at a junior league fixture one week and be the Competition Director at the World Championship the next. He is inspiring other Welsh officials to reach the highest element of our sport, this is evident in the fact that we have double the amount of Welsh officials in the London Championships than we did at the 2012 Olympics in the same venue.’
This is the second month in a row that a member of the athletics community in Wales has been honoured with this accolade, with 400m Hurdler Lauren Williams named the hero for July.
