Saturday, November 26th. Penlan Arena, Brecon
WSAA launch their Cross Country programme this coming weekend as the fixture list presents its’ first serious test of the winter with the Annual Inter Schools event at Brecon. The event will incorporate the Welsh Colleges Championships as well as development races aimed at primary school athletes. The event programme kicks off with the 4 primary races at 11am. Following these the course then opens for walking before the secondary age pupils get their chance to shine with the Under 13 Girls race at 1:15.
Following the cancellation of last year’s event due to severe weather the event is wide open with no athletes defending titles and most competing in different age groupings from the last staging. To date entries are in from no fewer than 86 schools and colleges from across Wales for what promises to be a highly competitive and entertaining afternoon of races.
This provides the first opportunity of the winter to catch the selector’s eye with places in next April’s Mini London Marathon up for grabs. The Inter Regional, Cardiff Cross Challenge and Welsh Cross Country provide the other opportunities for athletes to shine and secure themselves a place on the start line in London on April 23rd.
A team event aimed at individual schools also makes up the day. Schools are reminded that to be eligible for the team event they need to field 4 athletes wherever possible. Team Managers are reminded to report in at the pavilion on arrival to collect numbers and course maps.
WSAA look forward to seeing you all on the day. Good luck to all those taking part.
