It is with the deepest regret that Welsh Athletics reports the passing away of Newport Harriers coach and stalwart Tony Lewis.

During more than thirty years of coaching Tony coached, among many others:

Steve Davies (who went on to European 1500m Championship 2006)

James Hillier (who went on to achieve 2002 Commonwealth Games 400m hurdles Manchester)

James Nasarat (Millennium Commonwealth Games 2000; 1:46:95 – 800m)

Kathryn Sage (nee Bright) 1993 European Youth Olympics

His ultimate accomplishment in athletics is that over 30 years he has coached hundreds of athletes aged 11 to 60 and in events from 100m – 10000m including hurdles and steeplechase and has been ever present at the track three times a week for the duration as a volunteer coach.

All at Welsh Athletics would like to express the most sincere condolences to Tony’s family and friends at this time.

The funeral service will be held at St Patricks Church, Cromwell Road, Newport (NP19 0HS) on Thursday 28th June at 9.30 followed by cremation at Glyn-Taff (CF37 4BE).
