- All athletes who register their interest in advance of selection races will be informed of decisions both successful and unsuccessful.
- All eligible athletes are expected to compete in trial races
- Any athlete who is unable to compete for exceptional circumstances must notify a member of the selection panel/mountain running committee before the trial race/s.
- Only the athletes that have been selected using the above criteria will be eligible to compete for Wales
- The selectors have the right to not select a full team where performance standards are not considered sufficient.
- Team selections will be made on the day of specific trials and the selected athletes/teams will be informed as soon as possible by the team manager and announced on the Welsh Athletics web site.
- All events are subject to budgeting requirements from Welsh Athletics.
WELSH ELIGIBILITY
In order to run for Wales, athletes must be registered with Welsh Athletics and must have at least one of the following qualifications:
- A. BIRTH - the athlete having been born in Wales.
- B. PARENTAGE - one or both parents having been born in Wales. When claiming eligibility through parentage the applicant must send to the office, with their application form, the ORIGINAL birth certificates of both the parent who was born in Wales and of themselves (PHOTOCOPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED). These certificates should be the older style certificate showing the relationship between the applicant and the mother / father. Certificates will, of course, be returned.
- C. RESIDENCE - a minimum of 2 years continuous residence in Wales immediately prior to the event to be competed in. This criterion only applies once the WA office has been advised with authenticated proof (i.e. current utility bills) and the athlete concerned has received correspondence confirming this fact.
- D. RETENTION - Athletes who compete for Wales at full senior International level under the residence qualification retain their Welsh eligibility, regardless of residence, until such time as they compete for another country (but not another area).
G. CHANGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Athletes that have competed for another Country within the previous 2 years of the date of a Welsh championship/International or selection event are ineligible. An athlete that wishes to compete for Wales, having previously competed for another Country, must (i) send a letter stating this fact to his/her former National Body, notifying them of his/her intention to change allegiance to Wales and (ii) send a copy of the letter outlined in (i) to the Welsh Athletics Ltd. office and in a separate letter
