Dewi Griffiths runs himself to the top of the Welsh Rankings in Cork

Last night was the 66th Cork City Sports Athletics meet and it certainly was the place to be for some top class athletics action. Despite the conditions being windy, there were some strong performances coming from the evening of racing. There were three Welsh athletes in action who made the trip across to Ireland for the opportunity of a strong race.

Paul Bennett (Adrian Thomas) of Cardiff AAC was in action in the 400m Hurdles, the former Cardiff Met Student battled not only the wind but a strong field to finish 5th in a time of 52.74. Paul set his season's best of 51.71 in Belgium earlier on in the season and i'm sure we will see more of him before the end of summer.

Gareth Winter (Zane Duquemin) competed in the men's Shot Put, The Sheffield & Dearne and higher claim Cardiff AAC athlete finished in 5th place with a throw of 16.77 metres. 

The stand-out performance of the evening came from Dewi Griffiths (Kevin Evans) who continued his fine form with his first sub 8 minute 3000m of his career. The Swansea Harrier finished 7th in a strong field and impressively ran a huge new personal best of 7:55.65 to go top of the Welsh Rankings. it's been a good few weeks for the West Wales based runner who currently occupies the top of the Welsh rankings for 3000m, 5000m, 10,000m, 5k road, 10k road and Half Marathon.
