Funding and finance is an issue that faces every club no matter how big or small the club. Financial aid is available to help put coaches through courses, volunteer training, equipment, or developing other sections to the club.
Below is a list of funding opportunities available to affiliated athletics clubs in Wales:
Welsh Athletics Development Grants
In previous years Clubs:Future funding available to clubs has been held and distributed centrally by UK: Athletics and awarded to clubs that met a series of guidelines and whose applications met the restrictive criteria.
We are now in a position to offer the grants for club development in Wales directly to the clubs. The advantage of this is that not only can we be less restrictive in which funding applications are accepted and awarded, but we can also work with clubs directly on projects that will be of benefit to the club in the most effective way. Essentially it is the clubs that decide on the project that will be of most benefit to the club and are in control of their own future.
Clubs that are affiliated to ‘Welsh Athletics’ can apply for grant funding. Clubs must have gone through the affiliation / accreditation process and have all relevant paperwork up to date. Clubs that are recognised by Welsh Athletics and are seeking assistance to achieve affiliation / accreditation status.
Community Chest
The maximum award that a club can apply for at any one time is £1,000. Clubs may apply for a maximum of two awards in a financial year (April to March). The first application can be used to help towards supporting club development initiatives such as coach education and courses for volunteers. The second application must be for a physical activity not normally offered by the club.

Minor Grants
Minor grants provide funding for projects that create new, additional or improved opportunities to play sport. The scheme is used widely by the Council to encourage individuals, families and communities to become more active. Grants from £750 - £10,000 can be awarded. The total project cost cannot exceed £12,500.
Sportsmatch Cymru
The scheme provides a vital link between the commercial sector and the development of grass-roots sport. Awards range from a minimum of £300 (up to three sponsors can make up this amount - normally £100 per sponsor) and to a maximum of £50,000 for all applicants.
Capital Grants
The lottery funded capital scheme is used to improve facilities throughout Wales. Capital funding is used to support the development of sport and physical activity primarily in areas of greatest need.
