The festival will comprise a great feast of running events for all, from fun runners, experienced trail running gods, and even runs for your younger aspiring trail runners of tomorrow.
The Rabbit Run takes runners on just over 7 miles, much of which is on never-been-run-before trails around the lovely Merthyr Mawr Estate (to the south of Bridgend in South Wales).
The start of the 2016 race
The run takes in the notorious Big Dipper sand dune (as used by athletes to train for the Marathon De Sables), and runs along side Ogmore River, past the stepping stones near the castle, and if your feet haven’t got wet by then, you ford the river before finishing in front of the wonderful vista that is Merthyr Mawr House.
Cost to enter: from £15
The Giant Rabbit is for the braver runner who wants to experience the iconic aspects of both the Merthyr Mawr Estate and the surrounding area. Not for the feint-hearted this one – there is 18 miles of trail for you to conquer this time!
Once you’ve finished the Rabbit Run the first time around, you’ll be sent out again, and we’ve added an 3 extra miles of strength sapping sand dunes and the beach to make this a true test of your trail running strength.
Cost to enter: from £25
Family & Kids Races
It wouldn’t be fair to leave all the fun to the serious adults – so we have a number of family and junior runs available for the Junior Adventurers. These races are all entered on the day.
Bunny Run & Family Run – 2 kms (age limit – 6 years up to 11 years) – this is a single 2 kilometre run on flat pastureland alongside the River Ogmore
River Run – 4 km – (age limit – 12 years up to 16 years) – two laps of the 2 kilometre course on flat pastureland alongside the River Ogmore
Toddler Dash – (3 years up to 5 years) – 100 metres – a flat straight course to the finish line from the Old Big Oak Tree.
