The Welsh Trail Running Championships takes place annually and in recent year’s has taken different forms.
The 2016 Championships will be held within the Red Kite Challenge / Sialens Barcud Y Coch over the Half Marathon distance, on Saturday 30th April. The event will also proudly host the UK Athletics Short Course Trail Running Championships.
The Red Kite Challenge is one of the most scenic trail races in Britain and is held around the spectacular beauty spot of Devil’s Bridge which is about 20km East of Aberystwyth in West Wales
Devil’s Bridge is famous for its narrow guage railway, the Mynach Waterfalls, the three bridges and ‘The Arch’ which is the watershed to the river Rheidol and the river Ystwyth. For officionardos of popular culture, the television detective series ‘Hinterland’ was filmed in the area.
How Get There
The Red Kite Challenge headquaters are at the Woodlands Caravan Park on the edge of Devil’s Bridge three miles from Ponterwyd on the A44 which is itself 12 miles inland from Aberystwyth. For SATNAV users the postcode is: SY23 3JW.
On site there is a cafe serving hot and cold food and drinks which will be open for supporters and athletes to use. There is also adequate parking on site and at the Hafod Hotel car park which is 2 minutes walk from the start. Showers and changing is also available on site, a small charge will be levied for the use of the shower facilities. We will also be providing all the usual refreshments including Anne Bunton’s Bara Brith.
