Owain Jones (Bristol & West AC) lowered his own course record to retain his title at the third Caerphilly 10k. His new mark of 31.17 shaved just several seconds of the previous record to score him victory by over a minute.

Phil Matthews (Swansea Harriers) and Matthew Collins (MMRT) had their own race for second but finished in that order.
Camilla Barnes (Worcester AC) was a runaway winner in the ladies race. Swansea Harrier Kate Roberts had led in the early stages but had top settle for third just ahead of last year's winner, Emma Wookey (Lliswerry Runners) who finished second, a week after victory in the JCP Swansea Half Marathon.
Barnes was delighted with her win and should be very happy with a new pb of 35.46 set on the undulating course and in windy conditions.
The Caerphilly 10k has already established itself as extremely popular with local runners and saw a great turn out from many of the local running clubs. Lliswerry Runners and Les Croupiers RC were particuarly well represented.
The Caerphilly 10K is set to return for the third consecutive year on Sunday 21st June along with the Team Challenge and the Caerphilly 2k.
With 2000 runners of all abilities descending on Caerphilly from across the country to enjoy the 2014 event, organisers are hoping that this year's event will be bigger and better as over 2500 participants and as many spectators gear up to line the route.
Set in the shadow of the spectacular Caerphilly Castle, the Caerphilly 10k will both start and finish on Crescent Road. Runners will have the opportunity to run a good time on a relatively flat course with some undulating points. The course will lead participants in and around the town centre, passing iconic landmarks including the giant cheese sculpture and Tommy Cooper statue along the way and offering great views of the medieval castle, which dominates as the stunning backdrop to the event.
The event is organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council and is supported by Welsh Athletics, Run 4 Wales and Sport Wales.
