The new look Richard Burton 10km Road Race takes place in Cwmafon on Sunday 3rd November.
Shaun Tobin, Graham Rowland and the Bwystfil y Bryn Brag Group have taken over the event from the previous committee who have called it a day after 30 successful and memorable years. This year will see the 31st edition with Tata Steel the generous sponsor once again. The race will feature a handsome prize fund and a new fast course.
On the infamous old course, only two people broke 30 minutes with Sean Tobin running 29:59 and course record holder, Olympian Ian Hamer clocking 29:23.
Previous winners include Steve Jones, Steve Brace and Andres Jones (also Olympians), Ian Hudspith, Mark Morgan and local athletes Shaun Tobin, Alun Roper and super master athlete, Martin Rees.
There is also a Tata Steel 1 Mile Fun Run, that runs alongside the main event.
A Richard Burton exhibition will take place during the event. Fellow Pontryhdyfen native, Soprano Rebecca Evans will be in attendance, along with Olympians David Davies and John Mayock. The races will be followed by a post race party with food and live music.
