The 2015 European Mountain Running Championships have been awarded to Porto Moniz, a municipality located on the Portuguese island of Madeira.
The competition will take place on 4 July and runners will be forced to adapt to the heat as well as the challenges that the course will offer.
Italy's Bernard Dematteis and Andrea Mayr of Austria will both be seeking their third consecutive wins in the senior races having both retained their individual titles last year in Gap.
In the team event, four athletes are allowed to compete per country, the positions of the three best athletes from the same nation are added together to create the team scores.
Last year, Italy won the senior men's and women's as well as the junior men's titles while Turkey was able to secure the women's junior title to prevent an Italian clean sweep.
