Nigel qualified as a Senior Jumps and Combined Events coach in 1979. He was the Head of the PE Department at Cynffig Comprehensive School, Kenfig Hill from 1974 until 1997. On leaving the teaching profession he lectured for a short while before taking up the role as the Coaching Education Officer for Welsh Athletics based at the Celtic Manor.
For many years he was the Event Coach in Wales for the Jumping Events and for a short period in charge of Combined Events. He is currently employed as a Coach Tutor for UK Athletics and goes around the country tutoring on Coach Education Courses. Very much concerned at present with the development of the younger athlete aged 11-16 years of age.

2001 - Jumps Coach to the GB U23 Team in an Indoor Match at NIAC, Cardiff
2002 - Assistant Coach to Botswana at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester
2006 - Assistant Coach to Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne

Steven Shalders [GB] – Triple Jump
Steven was a pupil of Nigel’s at Cynffig Comprehensive School and his undoubted talent was identified at a very early age. With Nigel, Steven went on to represent Great Britain at the World Junior Championships in Chile jumping out to 15.99m. Steven represented various GB age group teams throughout his stay with Nigel. He was placed 6th at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester leaping out to 16.41m and in 2004 jumped a personal best performance of 16.62m at the British Universities Championships in Gateshead.
Henrietta Paxton [GB] – Long Jump
Like Gable and Steve, Henrietta was a student at UWIC and during her time with Nigel took the UK Under 23 Championship title and gained a GB under 23 International vest (Long Jump).
Rebecca White [GB] – Triple Jump
A Bath University student who won a silver medal in the Triple Jump at the UK Outdoor Championships held in Manchester. Rebecca jumped out to 13.17 and also had a personal best of 6.22m in the long jump.
