On Sunday 26th November at NIAC the South East Wales sprints regional development programme (RDP) held its 2nd Day of a 4-day programme focusing on relay and physical preparation.
The sprints RDP kept to the same format as day 1, two split sessions. During the first session, Neil Wheeler (National Sprints, Hurdles & Relays Manager) and David Norton focused on relay skills for both visual (4x200m/4x400m) and non-visual (4x100m) exchanges. This session maintained the dual objectives of technical development and team bonding. Neil and Dave were supported by Diane Breeden, Steve Boyles and Lewis Clarke.
During the second session of the day, it was good to see 18 parents participation with Neil Wheeler covering topics of planning, nutrition, supplements and anti-doping. Running parallel to the parents session was the the physical preparation practical. This engaging session kept in line with the Welsh Athletics resource booklets delivered by Gareth Walton, who works for worldwide organisation EXOS.
Positive participation from athletes, parents and coaches on the day helped make another enjoyable and educational day.
The next South East RDP day will be held on Sunday 18th February 2018, all coaches are welcome to attend even if they don’t have an invited athlete attending.
