On Sunday 29th October, 28 athletes their parents and coaches were invited to attend the first South & East Wales RDP (Speed), held at NIAC.
The schedule for the day was split into two sessions. During the first session myself (Jason Quirke), Diane Breeden and Lewis Clarke spoke with parents on various topics around athlete development, including communication between parents, athletes and coaches and an overview of the programme objectives. The event group practical focused on relays skills, technique and team building led by National Sprints, Hurdles & Relays Manager Neil Wheeler and Coach David Norton.
The second session was delivered by Gareth Walton, who works for worldwide organisation EXOS. Gareth focused on physical preparation using body weight and resistance bands. The content of Gareth’s session dovetailed really well with the Physical Preparation resources developed by Welsh Athletics.
The day was enjoyable, educational and most of all it was great to see positive participation by all.
The next RDP will be held on Sunday 26th November at NIAC, all coaches are welcome to attend even if you don’t have an athlete on the programme.
