Start a Club

If you want to create a definite identity for your running group, promote a healthy lifestyle for young kids or even improve the life of your local community, creating a club is the best choice for you!

Creating a club allows you to join the Welsh Athletics family and make full advantage the range of competitions, activities and benefits that officially affiliated clubs enjoy.

How do I create a new Club?

Creating a club is easy and straightforward, and at any stage you can receive full assistance by Welsh Athletics. A 5-stage process is all you need to follow:

  1. Register your interest and intent with Welsh Athletics: the club organisers or a group get in contact with the Welsh Athletics Registration and Affiliations Officer to start the affiliation process.
  2. Submit the Affiliation paperwork: Welsh Athletics send you an affiliation pack, including all the paperwork necessary for a successful process, which needs to be sent back to the Welsh Athletics office.
  3. Welsh Athletics forwards the submission to the Regional Council: once received, the affiliation pack is forwarded to the relevant Regional Athletic Council.
  4. Submit the full affiliation form & fee: upon approval by the Regional Athletic Council, the club submits a full affiliation form and the annual affiliation fee (currently £50).
  5. Club is granted official status within Welsh Athletics! Once the club is officially affiliated, club members are required to register with Welsh Athletics (annual fee £15 for seniors, £10 for under 17s and under 20s and £7.50 for under 11s, under 13s and under 15s).

Furthermore, there are a few basic "must-have" conditions each club is required to fulfil:

  • Clubs must have a simple constitution.
  • Clubs must elect the following officers: Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Registration Officer, Welfare Officer.
